Sandia National Laboratories is collaborating with U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and Instream Energy Systems, who has been deploying a vertical-axis turbine at the site, to characterize the effect of hydrokinetic turbine operation in the Roza Canal using field measurements and numerical modeling.
The Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) states that, all sellers of electricity in California, including publicly owned utilities (POUs), investor-owned utilities (IOUs), electricity service providers (ESPs), and community choice aggregators (CCAs), are required to procure a portion of their electricity retail sales from eligible renewable resources to meet the following goals:
Instream has successfully completed phase one of testing on their 25kW capacity turbine designed by BAE Systems at the Roza Canal in Washington. Phase two planning is presently underway. Instream has been working closely with the Bureau of Reclamation during the installation and testing of their technology.
